We the Executive Board and Representative Assembly of the Newspaper Guild of Detroit local 34022 proudly endorse Bernie Lunzer for the NewsGuild International President.
Bernie is the clear choice for President. He has dedicated his life to the Guild and has essential experience necessary to lead our union going forward.
Throughout his tenure as President, the Guild has grown and has gotten stronger. We have had unprecedented success in organizing, bringing in around 3000 new members in the last three years. The Guild has also established, for the first time in many decades, two chain bargaining programs with Digital First Media and GateHouse. The success has come at a time that is particularly difficult, but Bernie and his team have managed to build our Guild despite budget cuts and legal attacks on labor.
Bernie also has the essential relationships with our umbrella union, CWA. Our future depends on strong relationships and the ability to advocate for the needs of the Guild in our larger union.
We are asking you to vote for Bernie in our upcoming election. You likely already received your paper ballot in the mail at your home. There are two candidates and we strongly recommend you vote for Bernie Lunzer.
Every vote counts and it is very important that you take a couple moments to use your voice. I know we are all busy but it is vital that you participate in this very important decision. The International President may seem like something that is distant from your local and life, but the decisions our top leadership make can and will impact our future as a union.
